When the 8 day EMA and the 25 day SMA are both pointing upward and the 8 day EMA crosses, or has already crossed, the 25 day SMA from below, a bullish trend trade mode arises, I may buy longs. Upon a subsequent 8 day EMA downturn the trade mode ceases to exist and if I still have longs I will sell them at that time, be it at a profit or loss. If the market has gone my way I may also take profit earlier, usually when a close is made below the low of the previous day or at important resistance levels.

When the 8 day EMA and the 25 day SMA are both pointing downward and the 8 day EMA crosses, or has already crossed, the 25 day SMA from above, a bearish trend trade mode arises, I may buy shorts. Upon a subsequent 8 day EMA upturn the trade mode ceases to exist and if I still have shorts I will sell them at that time, be it at a profit or loss. If the market has gone my way I may also take profit earlier, usually when a close is made above the high of the previous day or at important support levels.

Trading Strategy note: Also look at important support and resistance levels or areas. Even with the above explained trade mode algorithm it may be unwise to buy longs just below resistance and shorts just above support. Narrow support-resistance congestion areas might also indicate a need to be cautious. In these cases it is preferable to wait for breakouts.

When the 5 month SMA and 8 month SMA are both pointing upward and the 5 month SMA crosses, or has already crossed, the 8 month SMA from below, an investment mode arises, and one could potentially commence with investing. Upon a subsequent 5 month SMA downturn a divestment mode is announced, and one probably should commence with divesting existing investments.

General note: EMA and SMA mean exponential and simple moving average respectively.
